BrightID Update April 2022

BrightID Project Update

BrightID and Orange protocol are now integrated, even the colors match. Exploring the BrightID Social Graph is now easier than ever. We had some special AMAs. Schelling Point in Amsterdam has been a wonderful event, and an interesting series on Web3 identity started on Twitter spaces.

Orange and BrightID on Web3 Reputation

Orange acts as a platform for DAOs and communities to employ reputation systems and ensure members are engaged, reliable, and most importantly, real. With BrightID verification added to the Orange Reputation Studio, Web3 identity and reputation are making significant headway toward replacing KYC. If you are looking to create and protect your reputation in Web3 or you are a builder who wants to make your community more equitable and Sybil-resistant, using the BrightID and Orange integration is a powerful tool in the areas of identity and reputation. For more details read the Orange and BrightID article on Medium.

Explore the BrightID Social Graph

Recently the BrightID app has been updated to version 4.14.1. One of the nice new features is that you can now easily explore the BrightID Social Graph easier. You can now login at explorer.brightid.org by scanning the login QR code with your BrightID app. After making connections you can see your position in the graph, where your connections are and lot’s of other technical details. Have a look at explorer.brightid.org and give it a try.

BrightID AMA’s

This month we had some special topics for our weekly “Ask Me Anything” meetings (AMAs). Two apps using BrightID were in the spotlights. One AMA featured the Universal Basic Income Manna and in a later one we discussed fraud detection with Gitcoin members. In case you missed them, they have been posted on our Youtube channel.

The AMAs normally occur every Thursday at 11:00 AM Pacific Time. Special topics and changes in the schedule are announced on Twitter (https://twitter.com/brightidproject) and Discord (https://discord.gg/nTtuB2M). Follow us there!

Schelling Point Amsterdam

On the 21st of April, hundreds of people have come together to build a better world at Schelling Point Amsterdam. Lots of inspiring talks, workshops, and discussions about all sorts of open-source blockchain projects. Just to name a few important topics: regenerative economics, decentralized science, and public goods. Also, reputation and identity for web3 came along, which is of course touching upon the work of BrightID.
If you missed it, you can catch up on some of the presentations on the Youtube Channel. If you just want to pick one we can recommend the final track by Ale Borda and Kevin Owocki on “ImpactDAO’s - the building blocks of regen web3”. Or go even one step further and get the book.

Twitter spaces on Web3 identity

Crypto Sapiens is doing a series of twitter spaces on Web3 identity with various related projects. The series(1 of 4 episodes) kicked off with BrightID (Adam and Phillip) and Gitcoin (DisruptionJoe) on April 27, 2022. Gitcoin is working on the next iteration of Gitcoin grants (Grants 2.0) with a focus on sybil resistance with the Decentralized Proof of Personhood Protocol (DPoPP). DPoPP is leveraging anonymized data collected by Gitcoin over the history of existing Grants. BrightID is going to continue to play a significant role in dPoPP and Grants 2.0.

It is encouraging to see that projects with disparate efforts and approaches in trying to solve the human uniqueness problem are coming together and collaborate. Besides BrightID and Gitcoin, there were representatives from Disco.xyz and OrangeProtocol.
In case you missed it, you can listen to the recording on Twitter spaces.
